The trials & tribulations of Little Red Riding Hood By jack Zipes

I just picked up this book today. I kept stumbling across refs to it as I was looking into alternate tales to the brothers grim version (let alone some of the candy coated modern versions). I never realized how this story changes through the ages.

We as artist/writers are still making new versions of this story today.

I keep coming back to this story with edits of my own. For some reason, I dont want the wolf to be male. The male figure fits in the older stories as the devourer/molester, but being that this story always reflects the society its told. I see the wolf as an equal opportunity employer of bad stuff. The character Lillith, I've worked on for years, I think fits the personality type of the old wolf. Maybe more secretive, but none the less, just as capable of being the devourer of children.

Looking forward to devouring this book :)

Ok, half way through the book. WOW so many symbols and pretext to the events in such a simple "warning" tale. I like the early tales that are part of the oral tradition. In those tales, the girl is quite capable of keeping the wolf at bay. Its only later in "civilized" tales that the girl becomes a helpless princess that MUST be saved by a prince/police figure. Isnt progress dandy???
