New Project - 3D Game

Sun Nov 8, 2009, 5:54 PM
I got an opportunity to do a little R&D at work lately. I work in an Interactive Dept, but we have never created a 3D game. we have worked on some 3D here and there, but nothing interesting.

Well a week ago I started putting together resources and time to work on a 3D game based on the paintings I did a couple of years ago. I really liked the colors and story, but didnt really have a medium except the paintings that I could take it further.

So in the coming months I am going to put my other projects on hold and knuckle down and try to create the world in my painting, as a quirky little 3rd person game.

Also started playing a horror game called "The Path" based on the little red riding hood story, beautiful and super creepy.([link])

Little Red Riding Hood

The trials & tribulations of Little Red Riding Hood By jack Zipes

I just picked up this book today. I kept stumbling across refs to it as I was looking into alternate tales to the brothers grim version (let alone some of the candy coated modern versions). I never realized how this story changes through the ages.

We as artist/writers are still making new versions of this story today.

I keep coming back to this story with edits of my own. For some reason, I dont want the wolf to be male. The male figure fits in the older stories as the devourer/molester, but being that this story always reflects the society its told. I see the wolf as an equal opportunity employer of bad stuff. The character Lillith, I've worked on for years, I think fits the personality type of the old wolf. Maybe more secretive, but none the less, just as capable of being the devourer of children.

Looking forward to devouring this book :)

Ok, half way through the book. WOW so many symbols and pretext to the events in such a simple "warning" tale. I like the early tales that are part of the oral tradition. In those tales, the girl is quite capable of keeping the wolf at bay. Its only later in "civilized" tales that the girl becomes a helpless princess that MUST be saved by a prince/police figure. Isnt progress dandy???

New story line

Wed Jan 21, 2009, 8:29 AM
I tripped across a new storyline last week that has me all a'twitter. Working on a rough outline and characters this week.

So far:
Luna - a young adult that lives at home (late high school or early college age)

Teddy - personified teddy bear.

Cat lady (neighbor) - a secret witch who turns people into cats.

Eddie the beetle - a hedonistic hookah smoking bug, but a good person, just not a good role model.

Rachel the lady bug - prudish self-righteous jerk

Started a new painting a few weeks ago. Its the first one with Lillith the werewolf as the main character. I am really happy with it so far. Its the first time I have used her color scheme - indanthrene blue. Man I love that shade.

Back to painting...

Mon Apr 21, 2008, 6:13 AM
I've been bummed that I haven't been painting this winter (only 1 painting in 6 month), and that just not right. bad me... So I am signed up for group painting at a local art center. Mostly to get me back into the practice of painting every night.

This winter I adopted a little puppy from a shelter, so all free time has been spent playing with him (Angus) and my other border collie (Kira). He is now old enough to not need constant supervision, so I puppy proofed my painting room this weekend. Man, I had no idea, I had so many little metal scraps from my models on the floor!

Went to a book sale at a local animal shelter fund raiser. OMG, they had records! lots of records! I am a vinyl junkie, I ended up buying 41 LPs, I mean it was for a good cause right.

A while ago, I created another account on deviant. So I could work on the darker side of my werewolf, Lillith. The story is really coming together. The details and story lines are coming together, but its becoming a rather bloody story. I tasked myself to "build a better monster", one that could be loved AND hated at the same time. If you are interested, take a look (rated R): [link]
